Banyule Cricket Club
Best & Fairest
The Banyule Cricket Club
"Best & Fairest" award is relatively new to the Club, but has
become a popular addition to Presentation Nights. Votes are awarded by
opposition captains and/or umpires at the conclusion of each round of
matches, with the best and fairest three Banyule players receiving 3, 2, and
1 votes for their efforts in that match. The voting card is returned to the
team captain, who then takes it to the BCC rooms where it is sealed and
stored until presentation night. Since it's
introduction to Banyule, the Australian Cricket Board have hit upon a similar
idea, with the Allan Border medal. The Banyule Best & Fairest is known as
the "Graeme Renshaw Award", after perhaps the best and fairest
wicket-keeper to have worn gloves in the HDCA. Renna
played in numerous finals for Banyule, from A Grade through the ranks. He is
greatly admired throughout the district as a fellow who places fair play
above all else. The Best and Fairest differs from the Club Championship, because the B&F depends not on statistics alone, but on the role and influence a player has on a match. |
